Underfoot's Baptism

Underfoot made a choice to be baptized this last weekend as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
We were honored with the family and friends that supported him in his choice. Thanks to the family who came from far away to join us.
Underfoot said he felt happy. He smiled big smiles and gave Sweetheart a huge hug after he was baptized.
The carpet was replaced this week. We emptied all the bedrooms for the second time in 6 months. We find ourselves wandering off the tile to the new floor.
It feels luxurious on our feet. Sweetheart pushed hard to finish the edges where the tile would go.
After deciding on a pocket door, we reversed the decision and returned the door. We want to be done with large scale projects for a while.
The goal this week is to finish the last few areas of tile and enjoy.
Every 4 years the boys get a birthday party. Underfoot got his party this week. We did a padawan training center.
Each future Jedi made their own light saber (pipe insulation wrap and duct tape), did training games (a.k.a. Cub Scout achievement #1), used the force (kept a balloon in the air), and destroyed a droid (beat up a piñata). Instead of cake, we had root beer floats. Very little refreshment was thrown away.

There was a small accident in the car.
The can of paint opened. The people at Lowe's were nice and gave me paper towels to clean out the car. Lowe's changed their brand of paint so all the paint had to be color matched. It was really unfortunate because I had most the bathroom painted and had to repaint the bathroom.

Hurricane struggled this week because not all the attention was on him.
A wise friend said to begin the discussion that being happy for others in others moments of happiness so that hurt feelings don't take over.
We are grateful for cousins and Aunt Mimi who took care of him during the birthday party.
Be Well.

Back to Life

Tile: The tile continues to be a project. Sweetheart is meticulous in his cutting. Cutting around doorways and transitioning from the hallway is a lot of angles. He spent the last 2 Saturdays making lots and lots cuts. Last Saturday after cutting, he dry-set the tiles he cut. We finished at 1:30 am. We were tired.

The last 2 night he and a friend did the grouting. There are 2 little closets, under the refrigerator, and laundry room left to tile. Last week Sweetheart decided (and with consultation) to put in a pocket door in the laundry room. The new door will open up the room. It adds to the project work around here. We apparently like to take on projects.

Little Chefs Club: The club resumed after being on hiatus for a month.
We made 3 different kind of pancakes - cornmeal, banana-wheat, and butternut squash-wheat. Fun was had by all. Hurricane was so happy to have the club again.

Sewing Club: Underfoot was happy his club started. He and his friend, Emma, hand sewed coin holders. They learned how to thread a needle. As I watched them try over and over again, I take for granted sometime the things I do so easily. I'm sure as I get older they won't be so easy. I had a lot of fun teaching them.

The Digestive System: Underfoot was the lead doctor for a school project.
He took on learning about the organs and how the system worked. He then had to present it to the other classes in his same grade.

Birthday: Underfoot had a birthday. He's 8 years old. The night before his birthday Sweetheart and I filled his room with balloons.
For his birthday, we tiled. Hurricane has been talking about buying a present with his own money for Underfoot since mid-January. We finally went and bought the present - peachies and gum.
We hosted a cake and ice cream that evening. In our family, we have birthday parties every 4 years. Underfoot will have his birthday party this coming weekend.
He has also decided to be baptized as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. His baptism will be this coming weekend. Jilli, my Mom, asked that we take a picture of Underfoot in his Cub uniform.
I decided he could also have one in a tie. We did both and love the result.

Cub Scouts: Part of turning 8 years old means starting Cub Scouts. We started the Cub Scout program with Underfoot this last week. He invited 2 friends to come and complete some of the Cub Scout achievements.
One day we worked on respect and learning about the American Flag and Faith in God. The next day we went to the Titan Missile Museum to visit a historical site.
He has enjoyed his time in Cub Scouting. The pack held an activity during spring break. Underfoot had a great day.

Vinegar: On Sunday, I asked Sweetheart to make sure the boys' hair was combed before church. Sweetheart grabbed a water bottle, squirted it a couple times to make sure it wasn't bleach or vinegar, and started to spray Hurricane's head down. Hurricane told him to stop because he was being sprayed with vinegar. Hurricane smelled like a pickle the rest of the day.

Pi Day: We took a picture on 3-14-15 at 9:26 am. It is a little nerdy but maybe in 100 years our great-grandchildren will have a good laugh.

Free Ice Cream: We were tipped to Dairy Queen's birthday.
They were giving away free small ice cream cones. We drove over and indulged in one for each of us.

Cherries: After 3 years, the tree has produced the possibility for cherries. Sweetheart is so excited that there is the potential for cherries.

Practically Perfect: Underfoot said to me yesterday, "Mom you are like Mary Poppins. Practically perfect in every way." He has said it a couple times. Hurricane and he have been singing "I Love to Laugh" over and over and over again.

Here are a few pictures in of our yard. We are very happy with the green that is here.

The aloe has all bloomed. We cleaned up the front door area.

Rodeo Days

Sweetheart: Tiling is getting down. He had help on Saturday to make a lot of different cuts. He has been focused on finishing the project. We have a deadline of March 16. This is the day before getting carpet.

Hurricane: He ran a low grade fever. He decided to stay home one day from school because of his cough. The last 2 days of the week were called Rodeo Days and are days off of school.
He has been fascinated with paper mâché. We made 2 balloons.

Underfoot: He dressed up as a cowboy for Rodeo Days for school.
On the days off, he was very helpful by reading and cleaning up the house. He helped his Dad cut tile.

Mama: I'm doing so much better. I went to a baby shower on Wednesday. The first time I went out for fun in 3 plus weeks. Each day has been better.
